Yesterday the BACDT emailed the membership with the news that HMRC’s Furloughed Portal is going live on 20th April, and that HMRC are planning on making their first payments to businesses on 30th April. However, if they don’t make it on 30th April, the payment is delayed until May.
As business owners, we have a duty of care to our employees to pay them on time, but these are unprecedented times; many of us haven’t been paid by our clients, so haven’t got the funds in the bank to pay wages without receiving the money from HMRC first. HMRC seem to be working under the assumption that April’s wages will be paid by the employer and refunded by HMRC afterwards, which is impossible for a lot of lab owners.
