Following Evlynne Gilvarry’s announcement in November that she would be stepping down from her role as Chief Executive and Registrar of the General Dental Council (GDC) at the end of January 2016, the GDC has confirmed the appointment of Ian Brack as interim Chief Executive.
Brack will join the organisation from 11 January, while Gilvarry will leave at the end of the month.
Dr William Moyes, Chairman of the GDC, stated that he is ‘delighted to welcome Ian to the team’, and is ‘confident he will make a telling contribution to the work of the GDC’.
Most recently, Brack was Interim Chief Executive at the Office for Legal Complaints, where he was responsible for notable internal change while improving relationships with important external stakeholders. He was also a leader of the Olympic Lottery Distributor, overseeing substantial grant expenditure including the multi-million pound grant awarded to the Paralympics.
‘Ian brings with him a wealth of experience, as well as a commitment to making sure we continue to put patient and public protection at the heart of what we do,’ continued Moyes, who believes Brack’s previous experience with leading complex organisations will benefit him for his time at the GDC.
Alongside welcoming Brack, Moyes also pays tribute to the work of Gilvarry during her five year tenure at the GDC. Praising her ‘immense commitment and leadership’, Moyes states that ‘she has driven forward some very significant and necessary improvements’, which will undoubtedly benefit the GDC for the future.
