The BACDT is thrilled to present an event which is being put on for the benefit of all CDT’s, comprising of three Fitness to Practice webinars taking place throughout June 2021. Because this will be an Informational Event, there will be no CPD allocation attached to the session.
Bill Sharpling will do the opening introductions to the webinars alongside hosting them.
Each speaker will present for 1 hour, and there will be a further 30 mins each event for questions and answers.
To get the most from this event, delegates should attend all three webinars consecutively.
Webinar 1: Going through a Fitness to Practice (FtP) case
Wednesday 2nd June 2021 at 7pm
In this webinar, a CDT who went through a FtP case hearing will share experiences and the impact it had on them professionally and domestically.
About the speaker:
Graham Bryant DipCDT RCS(Eng) has over 15 years’ experience in dental technology and is the owner of The Natural Denture Clinic in Havant Hampshire.
Graham has worked in the dental profession for over 20 years qualifying with a BTEC diploma in dental technology and Clinical Dental Technology Diploma with the George Brown college Toronto and Royal College of Surgeons (England).
Graham is a member of the Dental Technicians Association and The British Association of Clinical Dental Technology.
Webinar 2: CDTs and FtP from a GDC perspective

In this webinar, John Cullinane from the GDC will explain what they have learned from FtP relating to CDTs and provide direction on how CDTs can avoid the FtP process.
About the speaker:
John Cullinane was appointed Executive Director, Fitness to Practise, at the GDC in March 2021, having filled the role on an interim basis since March 2020. He has worked for the GDC for over five years, having joined from the Civil Service where he worked in various roles, including investigating deaths in custody for the Prisons and probation Ombudsman. John joined the GDC as Head of Case Progression and, as well as reshaping the fitness to practise casework process, introduced the in-house dental team that provides early clinical advice. John then took over the role of Head of Adjudication in December 2018, running the GDC’s hearing function and overseeing the remodelling of the Wimpole Street building to accommodate five hearings suites, as well as line managing the Case Examiner team.
Webinar 3: CDTs and FtP from an indemnifiers perspective

In this webinar, Phil Shaw from Dental Protection will share what they have learned from FtP relating to CDTs and provide direction on how CDTs can avoid the FtP process.
About the speaker:
Phil qualified from King’s College Hospital Dental School, London, in 1987. After two years as an associate in Essex, he bought his own NHS dental practice in Manchester and over the years combined a career in general practice with part-time clinical teaching and research at Manchester Dental School. During this time he also became involved in Foundation Training, eventually becoming the Adviser for the North Manchester Scheme. He sold his NHS practice in 2002 and worked in part-time private practice in several practices in Yorkshire. Phil has obtained a Master’s Degree in Medical Law from the University of Northumbria. Phil was appointed as a Dentolegal Consultant for Dental Protection in 2008 and became a full-time Consultant in July 2011.
